Don't Knock IT
You wouldn't ask your CFO to wash the windows, or your sales director to answer the office phone. So why do so many of my clients have coders, sysadmins, and product managers fixing the printer?
I hasten to add that internal IT is a noble and vital function, and it makes sense in many organisations for the CTO or a similar executive to manage those who keep our laptops alive and our emails spam-free. That's precisely why we need to treat IT folks s first-class citizens, not cost-centre appendages.
