Stupid work is killing us—literally. From Amazon workers whose every move is monitored by faceless cameras, to customer service reps who have to say "just wait while my screen loads", to operations people who move data from one antiquated system to another following increasingly byzantine rules, it sure does seem like we humans are becoming cogs in a creaking, wheezing machine of our own creation. And the toll on physical and mental health is immense and costly.

The comedy and the tragedy is that it doesn't have to be this way. We have wonderful tools for mastering complexity and they're particularly suited to exactly the kinds of operational challenges that our global, interconnected systems demand. A myriad examples, from Toyota to Instagram to Subway, show us how to run extremely complicated systems with minimal staff, low effort, and high reliability. So why aren't we applying these lessons and saving humans from the soulless tedium of repetitive work?

Join me in person in a convenient London venue to discuss the best ways out of the operations morass:

  • Getting programmers out of the way so skilled staff can update their own processes, workflow, and data.
  • Blending product management and operations skill to apply your tech investment to the most important process bottlenecks.
  • Creating and feeding "centaurs" that blend the best of machine and human skills.
